Craftiness!

I finished my first crochet project ever!  I made a beret hat!  It turned out really well, but I think I'll give the hat a little more depth next time.  :)  I've already started making a nice chunky beanie.  I figure if I move up to Wyoming, I'll need a lot of warm things!  Pics coming soon!

Another project I completed in my ever amounting spare time used pipe cleaners - of all things!  I got the idea from Design*Sponge (where else?) from here.  Here is their version:

 And here is mine!

I was thinking about using red pipe cleaners to make the flowers look like poinsettias in time for a nice little Christmas garland.  This project was super easy and cheap as well.  It adds a little color to my side of the room.  :)

Hobby Lobby is pretty much my new favorite hangout, but I have also been raiding the Dollar Tree right next door.  I like to go there for elastic headbands and silk flowers.  I can get 6-7 elastic headbands for a dollar!  And even though the silk flowers are cheap, I spend extra time trying to find the best ones.  I'm combining these to create floral headbands, yet another thing I enjoy doing in my past time.  I picked up a few feathers from Hobby Lobby as well to try some feathered headbands.  :)

As far as upcoming projects, I'm looking to create a pillow (by hand, unfortunately).  I like to get the clearance fabric scraps and I recently picked up some houndstooth fabric.  I want to use the houndstooth fabric to create little pinwheels like this:

Hopefully it'll turn out okay, even if I have to hand-sew it.  I cannot wait to get my hands on the sewing machine just waiting for me in Florida!

I also love this idea of a funky chandelier.  It's very simple and looks cool!

And since I am in the crocheting mood, I could probably make some time for a few hanging plant pouches.

Cold weather perk..

Being an 8th generation Floridian, I do not tolerate cold weather very well.  But, if I were forced to live in a cold state, I guess I could deal with it.  I've never really owned a heavy coat or any kind of boots.  And if I moved right now, I'd freeze my little buns off.  My wardrobe currently consists of cute, light fabric tops perfect for warm weather.

However, the more I think about it, the more I think I might actually like wearing clothes for cold weather.  I always thought you couldn't look cute when you had to bundle up.  Au contraire!  I've recently been opened up to a whole new world of clothes - pea coats, cashmere sweaters, and lots and lots of ankle booties!  I am actually wishing it were cooler just so I could wear some of these things!

A penny for MY thoughts!

If I was able to have any "superhero" ability, I wouldn't choose flying or being invisible.
No no!
I would choose being able to speak and understand every single language in the world. To me, that would be SUPER super!

By the way, energism art is pretty cool.

Be true to yourself..

I've been feeling ridiculously inspired these past few days. It got me to thinking where this inspiration could have possibly come from. I think I can narrow it down to two things: music (not too surprising) and someone very dear to me. I've also been on a Green Day kick (where did that come from!?) and so I've been listening to a lot of songs and actually taking the time to enjoy the lyrics. I'm normally just an overall fan of the way music sounds, maybe picking up a few words from the chorus, but that's it.

These lyrics hit me particularly hard:

"It says home is where the heart is
But what a shame
Cause everyone's heart
Doesn't beat the same
It's beating out of time."

I've been really enjoying Warning, even though according to Green Day experts it's not their best album. All morning, I had a song stuck in my head and I could only remember the melody of one part. I finally figured out what it was:

Anyway, I'm going to see where this inspiration takes me. I'm limited to construction paper and colored pencils, but I'll try to figure something out.

Save the Date.

I've fallen in love with this polkadot 'save the date' idea from Creature Comforts.

It's made using a a tellum envelope filled with multiple shades of circles.

I did a little research and found some places that sold tellum envelopes, however they were not cheap. So I did a little more research and decided I could buy tellum paper in bulk and create my own envelopes using this method. This is one of many ideas I have for a 'save the date' type dealio to get the word out. Add a custom rubber stamp and these would be simple, cute, and perfect. I am so excited!

Nooks..

Lately, I've been caught up on the idea of little kitchen nooks and breakfast benches. I think it would be a neat idea, and it would not be too difficult to build a bench. Plus! I could use the benches for storage!

A few of my favorite:

New things!

I finally got my amazing seahorse mosaic mirror!!

It is everything I wanted it to be! And it makes me so excited to move somewhere and have our own place so that I can start going crazy with decorating!

And I finally got a haircut.

I went to Paris Parker as a recommendation. The stylist took her time and did a very nice job. Overall, I am very happy with my haircut and glad to be rid of all that hair. :)

Almost Done!

I took Olivier out tonight to Zea's for a celebratory meal. He is almost completely finished with his thesis, which is super exciting! All he has left to do is make a few changes to make his thesis look nice and pretty on paper. :) Other than that, Olivier has a date set for his defense and now all he needs to do is find a job. We're keeping our fingers crossed!

In other news, I acquired an absolutely adorable new umbrella! You'd be surprised how much people leave at restaurants. Umbrellas is a big one, but credit cards are the worst!

And meet Leila! My dad recently took a vacation to Hawaii and brought me back some goodies! This awesome, authentic hula girl now has a home on the dash of my car. :)
