I only recently figured out why everything is called 'Red Stick' - apparently five years of French did not do squat for me! ;)

There are always fresh flowers here. This past week they had hundreds of sunflowers and they were handing them out to little kids. I absolutely adore sunflowers, which is why I am going to plant some today. I do not have much of a green thumb, but I am going to try to baby my sunflower seeds to life!

Squash Season!

Olivier and I have a few rituals we practice at the farmer's market. Every week, we stop by the pie vendor and purchase two petite pies. Since I am a strange person, I only eat around the crust on my petite pie and Olivier finishes it off.
We also stop by the creamery vendor and purchase two pints of chocolate milk (the best chocolate milk I have ever tasted!) and recently a slice of the creole cream cheese cake, YUM!

Just some of our loot!

This week, it was really a treat because there were fresh peaches. I haven't tasted a peach in at least a year. We also picked up some asian pears to try. And every visit we buy at least three cucumbers. :) Olivier insists on getting a butternut squash to bake in the oven with butter and brown sugar. He says he makes an amazing butternut squash soup, but I have yet to see this happen.
This was a first for me:

Yellow Watermelons!

Yellow Watermelons!
I had no idea watermelon could be a color other than red. Apparently there are all sorts of varieties of watermelon! Who would have thought!
And last but not least, the lovely cooking show every week:

We have never had the time to watch a show in its entirety, but we've caught glimpses of them. This week it was shrimp and grits! What I love about this cooking demonstration is that they use the ingredients sold at the farmer's market. So if you really like something, you can pick them up and make it yourself. :)

Soon, it will be the first Saturday of the month again and the local artists will showcase their art for sale. I can't wait! It's always nice to walk around and view other's creativity. Sometimes it even inspires me to create my own! I'm off to search for a woven bag at goodwill and some scarfs using this great idea for inspiration. I'm planning on making myself a new purse with my first of hopefully many projects to come.
